World History: 7th Grade END-OF-THE YEAR PROJECT The Lee Burneson Museum of World HistoryProject LBMS 7th Grade Social Studies & Language Arts
WHAT? Grade level project where museum artifacts will be created, and classrooms will be turned into museum rooms each showcasing a different period in world history.
WHO? All students in the 7th grade working in both social studies and language arts classes.
WHERE? In the library, computer lab, your classroom , or at home
WHY? The GOAL of the project is for students to use decision making skills, problem-solving, organizational and design skills, as well as writing, to create an artifact for the museum. This multi-disciplinary project encompasses many of the skills and topics we have covered in our curriculum this year.
How to Get Started Go to Project Link page from the library homepage, click on 7th grade Museum Project and begin to explore the project choices. http://www.westlake.k12.oh.us/lbmslibrary/projectlinks.htm
3 Levels of Project Choices Proficient: this is your basic level project that everyone is capable of completing. Advanced: this project level will require slightly more time, skill, and organization. Accelerated: this project will require time outside of the classroom, strong design skills, dedication, and a high level of quality.
Choose your project wisely You know your capabilities. Our goal is for you to successfully complete this project. Choose your project from a level where you know you can succeed, but be sure to challenge yourself.
Where do you get the supplies for this project? With the help of Pat Catan’sand with a grant, we have received tons of supplies as a starting point. There will be a list online of supplies available at school. Once you have had your project choice approved, list all of the supplies you will need. If an item you need isn’t on the list of supplies we have or if we run out, you will have to supply it on your own.
Research Using different sources (books, Internet, your textbook, etc.) to take notes on the following things: Name of civilization your artifact comes from Time Period Location of the civilization Summary of civilization (2-4 sentences discussing the great achievements of this civilization Physical description of the REAL artifact (THINK color, size, texture, material, etc.) Purpose of the artifact
What’s next? Using the information from your notes, write a PERFECT paragraph that includes a summary of the civilization, description of the artifact, and purpose. Follow the template you will find on the library page.
Make Your Artifact This is your time to be creative using the instructions online or your own.
