  3. Statement I disagree with the idea to distinguish between killing and letting die.

  4. Example 1 • Situation: 1 We are hurrying in our jeep to save five people who are threatened by the ocean tide. We have not a moment. Then, we hear that a single person needs rescuing from other disaster. →we must leave a single person die five single

  5. Example 1 If we are to rescue five, We would have to drive over him. But can we do so? • Situation 2: We are hurrying in our jeep to save five people who are threatened by the ocean tide. We have not a moment. The road is narrow and rocky. Then, the lone individual is trapped onthe path.

  6. Example 2 No reason to say that it is “less bad” • Situation 1: push a child under This is wrong apparently • Situation 2: leave a child drowning in a bathtub This is also wrong single

  7. Example 3 • Situation: runaway trolley is heading toward a track on which five people are standing, and there is someone who can possibly switch the points.

  8. Example 3 Letting one man newly die is wrong! • Situation: runaway trolley is heading toward a track on which five people are standing, and there is someone who can possibly switch the points, thereby diverting the trolley onto a track on which there is only one person.
