Who is my God? Introduction to the Attributes of God. Our Goal this Summer. Answer, “Who is my God?” Not “What should I believe about God?” But “What do I really believe about God?” Why bother? It’s our greatest command (Mt 22:37-38) It’s our greatest privilege (Phil 3:8)

Our Goal this Summer • Answer, “Who is my God?” • Not “What should I believe about God?” • But “What do I really believe about God?” • Why bother? • It’s our greatest command (Mt 22:37-38) • It’s our greatest privilege (Phil 3:8) • It’s the foundation of all else in life worldview, attitudes, behavior, relationships…

  3. Isaiah 6:1-5 I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him… one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

  5. Overview • Attribute • Incommunicable: “does not share” • Self-existence, immutability, omnipotence, etc. • Communicable: “shares in a limited sense” • Spirituality – life, personality • Intellectual Attributes - wisdom, truth • Moral Attributes – Goodness, love, grace, righteousness • etc.

  11. Application • Reflect on past times of struggle • How did you respond? • What does this reveal about your conception of God? • Pray • That God would unearth false conceptions about Him… • …and correct them… • …and transform you more fully into His image.
