Course Objectives • To understand the local aquatic systems in order to preserve these systems for future generations • To use current technology to gather meaningful data to share with peers and the local community • To conduct research and communicate scientific finding through writing • To practice perseverance and work hard for preparation of life after high school

  3. Help & Tutorials • SMART Lunch • Begins 3rd week school, Sept 9 • Tutorials (days TBA) & Stay Put (> 80%) • I will eat lunch with you if you need. • Tutorials: • Wednesday Mornings: 7-7:20 • Thursday Afternoons: 2:30-3:30 • Contact me if you need to set up an extra time. I will be here if you need me unless I absolutely cannot be.

  5. Classroom Rules 1. Be courteous & respectful of everyone. 2. Be prepared to listen and learn. Cell phones and ear buds should be removed and put away while in the classroom. 3. Food and drinks should not be brought into the classroom. 4. Follow all classroom procedures. 5. Follow all rules & guidelines outlined in the Student Handbook.

  7. Grading • Daily Work: 25% • Labs: 25% • Participation (Field Trips): 10% • Tests & Quizzes: 30% • CBAs: 10%

Field Trips • Field Trip Fee: $20.00 (per semester): Due Sept 5 • 3 Required Field Trips • Collecting organisms for aquariums (S105) • Partnering w/ Galveston Bay Foundation to harvest, grow, and restore salt marsh habitat • Must be passing ALL classes (check 1 week prior) • Will not return to campus until 2:00pm • Your responsibility to make sure available

  9. Field Trip #1 • Salt Marsh Harvesting (Baytown, NRG EcoCenter) • Wed, Sept 17: Periods 1 & 5 • Thurs, Sept 18: Periods 2 & 6 • Fri, Sept 19: Periods 4 & 7

  10. Field Trip #2 • Galveston Island State Park (Collecting for Tanks & TAMUG visit) • Mon, Oct 27: Periods 1 & 5 • Tues, Oct 28: Periods 2 & 6 • Thurs, Oct 30: Periods 4 & 7

  11. Field Trip #3 • Salt Marsh Restoration (Location TBA) • Tuesday, May 19: Periods 1 & 5 • Wednesday, May 20: Periods 2 & 6 • Thursday, May 21: Periods 4 & 7*** ***May 21 = review for senior finals talk to teacher in advance as you know all school year***

  12. Late Work • Homework due in box by time bell rings or it is late. • Late work -20 pts each day late

  13. Excused Absences • Students absent will be given the number of days they were absent to complete the missing assignments. • After that time frame, the late work policy applies. • Tests, quizzes, & labs must be made up within 5 days. (Can make up during SMART lunch)
