  1. Welcome to Science! Forensic Engineering 2016

  2. Basic Class Rules: • 1. Respect each other and yourself. Use appropriate language and keep your hands to yourself. • Through this, miniscule problems will be avoided and learning will be in increased. • 2. Wear uniform on a daily basis. Be prepared for class! • 3. Honesty and pride in daily activities. Everyone CLEANS UP! • 4. Interaction with robots/ tools/ peers/animals/computers/cell phone by permission only.

  3. General Class Procedures: 1. Be on time. 1st and 2nd tardiness under two minutes is a warning; following tardiness will result in disciplinary action 2. Wear your uniform daily. 3. Obtain papers for the day from outside table. 4. Refrain from talking at the beginning of the class and during lectures. 5.Attendance will be taken visually by a computer seating chart system.

  4. General Class Procedures: • 6. Teacher permission for passes. • 7. Hand in homework due to teacher’s basket on desk; you must do this at beginning of class not at the end. • 8. All tests, quizzes, projects and lab reports are kept in student files and lab notebooks. • 9. Stay in seat until bell and allow teacher to dismiss class, please do not line up at the door.

  5. Consequences for Behavioral Disruptions: • Will be determined by teacher. • The following actions are common; removal from class, phone call home, conduct cut, referral.

  6. Textbook: none! • Supplementary materials will be given in class; and placed in student notebooks as needed.

  7. Grades and Methods of Grading: • Grades and Methods of Grading: All grades will be at the discretion of the teacher & decisions are final. • Homework:1-3 grades. Handed in early/ on-time will earn potential full credit “A” • Second chancepotential full credit “B” Last chancepotential full credit “C” • Assignments will have a “No later than” date assigned to them. • Make-up homework must be completed in 3 days upon returning to school. • Homework Patrol: Periodic checks of assignments will occur resulting in a “homework patrol” grade. • Quizzes/Tests:1-4 grades. Teacher generated science exams are usually given on Thursday or Friday. • Test make-ups will be given the day student returns to class. Exceptions must be arranged with teacher and occur before the following test (possible alternative form.) • TESTS ARE A COMBINATION OF VOCABULARY, TEXT READINGS, HANDOUTS, VIDEOS, ACTIVITIES AND LECTURES. • Class work / labs/ projects / reports:1-4 grades.Work must be original. • Assignments will have a “no later than” date assigned to them. • Late projects and reports will result in a letter grade lower each day late. • **WORKING TOGETHER IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN COPYING, LEARN THE DIFFERENCE** • Copying work will result in zeros for all parties involved and parents will be contacted.

  8. Extra Credit: • Opportunities to do a lab service hour, attending specific activities, additional projects, bringing in suppliesmay be available. • After grades for a marking period are entered they will not be changed.

  9. GRADE SCALE: Corresponds to that set by Dade County Public Schools. • A = 3.50 - 4.00 • B = 2.50 - 3.49 • C = 1.50 - 2.49 • D = 1.00 - 1.49 • F = < .99

  10. Lectures: • Fast paced white board talk, power points, videos, class discussions, demo’s and surprises. • You are expected to participate actively. Raise hands and wait to be recognized for comments and questions. • Your opinion is valued and appreciated in class. • Respect and enjoy others individuality. • Occasionally businesses, products, corporations or politicians are mentioned and by no means are meant to infringe on anyone’s personal opinions or beliefs.

  11. Materials: • One Duatang folder with pockets & prongs any color (this will be homework folder) SHEET PROTECTORS • One- 2 inch 3 ring, clear view notebook with 8 dividers (which will be left in class as lab notebook) • The following materials should be brought DAILY and may be shared with other classes • 1 pen (black or blue) • Liquid paper/white out • 1 pencil with eraser • 1 highlighter (any light color) • 1 small box of colored pencils • 1 sharpie fine + medium point marker black • 1 small glue stick • 1 metric ruler (flexible will last longer) • GRAPH PAPER!!!

  13. Lab Fee: $10 All students must pay a lab fee!

  14. Un-excused Absences & Passes • **All make-up work/Quiz/Test/Home work will carry a zero until absence is excused** • Passes: if you need to miss class for dance, drama, art, chorus, sports, etc. you must prearrange this absence. Passes brought “after the fact” will not be accepted.

Forensic Engineering Notebook 20 possible points Due date:____________ •   Materials needed: • One -2 inch three ring binder with clear view pocket covers • Markers • Old magazines • One old photo of self • Internet access • Glue stick • Optional glitter/stickers, be creative..have fun... 20-19=A 18-17=B 16-15=C 14-13=D 12-0= ;0(

  16. I. Side binding: Must include the following 1 item • Name • II. Outside Front cover center: Must include the following 2 items large and easy to read! • Name • 2016-2017 • III. Outside (front and/or back): Must include the following 13 images: • Minimum 1 picture of you! • Robots • Computer/ circuits • Ruler/ calculator • Bridge/ collapsed Gears • Building/collapse • Famous Inventor • Car /Plane design • Engineering process diagram • Hard Hat/ goggles • STEM • IV. Now add 4 more images of your choice pertaining to Engineering!
