  2. Emergency vs. Preventative Safety Equipment Emergency Safety Equipment is used when there is an actual emergency. Examples: There is a fire, there is a chemical spill. Preventative Safety Equipment is used to help prevent an emergency from happening.

  3. Emergency Safety Equipment Fire Extinguisher- used when there is a small fire on a counter, desk, trash can. Do not point or use a Fire Extinguisher on a person.

  4. Emergency Safety Equipment Fire Blanket-usedwhen a Fire Extinguisher can not be used. Can be used on electrical fires and humans. Make sure that you protect yourself and your hands while using a fire blanket.

  5. Emergency Safety Equipment Eye Wash-usedif chemicals get into your eyes. Eyes should be flushed with clean water for at least 20 minutes.

  6. Emergency Safety Equipment Emergency Shower-used when there is a large chemical spill on a person.

  7. Preventative Safety Equipment • Goggles • Apron • Gloves

  8. Things to Remember When you are asked to observe a smell in the Science Lab waft the smell to you.

  9. Things to Remember • Never taste or eat anything in the Lab unless instructed to do so. • Never mix any chemicals or substances unless instructed to do so. • If you run out of a lab material always ask the teacher for help.
