2. Sponsorship Levels Medical and Dental Brigade volunteers have the opportunity to shadow and assist licensed doctors and dentists in consultations and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade every 3 to 6 months where hundreds of patients are treated and volunteers facilitate health education workshops. Between brigades our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up visits to ensure the pursuit of referral appointments. Electronic patient records are collected after each clinic day to monitor overall community health trends. Volunteers will spend 4 days in a community in order to optimize the amount of time patients are able to spend with the physicians and dentists. Each patient will receive a physician consultation and public health workshop as well as have access to preventative dental education, extractions, VIA testing, and prostate exams. All children will receive vitamins necessary for proper growth and development. • Benefits for Community Members and Students • Through medical and dental brigades, community members gain access to healthcare as well as education on existing healthcare facilities that they otherwise would not have access to. They are also provided with knowledge on how to prevent the most common illnesses and dental diseases in their community. • Through this life changing experience, students are able to interact directly with the patients and witness international medicine first hand. Volunteers will become familiar with the prevalent health issues in their community and learn about how to prevent and treat those illnesses. The brigades provide each volunteer with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a specific community while gaining real life shadowing experience in the field of international medicine and dentistry.
