Middle Colonies

DESCRIPTION

The Middle Colonies, including New Netherland (later New York), Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, were pivotal in early American history. Established in the 17th century, New Netherland became a Dutch stronghold with New Amsterdam at its core. The English seized control, leading to the establishment of New Jersey as a proprietary colony. Pennsylvania, founded by William Penn, epitomized religious tolerance and diversity. These colonies thrived economically due to their fertile lands and strategic locations, often referred to as the "breadbasket" of early America, promoting varied political and cultural viewpoints.
