  1. Vision: Creating a Sustainable Energy Future • Areas of Focus • Energy Efficiency • Renewable Energy • Green Building • Climate Change • Transportation

  2. CCSE Services • Cash Incentives • Educational Workshops • Resource & Tool Lending Libraries • Technical Assistance • Technology Display Center • Distributed Generation Assessment Services • Carbon Impact Assessment and Management • Technical and Policy support for Local Governments

  3. Energy Efficiency • More energy to core business • Reliable and stable energy supply • Onsite generation takes higher load • Most cost effective way to meet company’s green goals

  4. The Power and Payback of EE • Energy Efficiency (EE) • Retrofitting old lights and ballasts can save 32W per fixture. At $0.10/kWh that’s $14 per fixture per year. Installation was estimated to be $43/fixture (parts and labor), and could receive a $9.80 rebate. • Simple ROI (without tax credit): 42% • Energy Efficiency + Distributed Generation (DG) • Lowering demand will lower your required DG system size. • Energy use reduced by 10%: saves 10% on DG system capacity.

  5. Energy Planning • Energy Efficiency (EE) = Best $$$ Savings/Payback • The best opportunities for business to save $$$ are typically tied to systems that have high annual operating hours. That makes common areas a jackpot when it comes to implementing EE measures. • Energy Efficiency + Distributed Generation (DG) = Improved Environmental Bottom Line and Additional $$$ Savings • Tenants are demanding a greater level of Clean/Green amenities and features at competitive prices. EE should always be addressed before DG. • Operations & Maintenance (O&M) = Behavioral Changes/Scheduling Improves $$$ Savings • O&M covers all the behavioral measures not directly tied to some hardware efficiency upgrade such as scheduling maintenance during off-peak hours.

  6. 1. What is Solar Electricity? • Pho-to-vol-ta-ics (PV) • photo = light voltaic = produces voltage • Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert light directly into electricity (using semi-conductor technology) • When PV cells are exposed to sunlight, they separate positive and negative charges, releasing small amounts of electricity giving off what is known as the "photovoltaic effect." Solar video

  7. How does Solar PV work? AC Disconnect Utility

  8. Crystalline (mono or poly) Silicon PV Products • Firm, like crystals • Longest track record, over 50 years • Most common, over 85% of the market • Highest efficiencies: avg. 12%, up to 22% • 100 sq. ft. = 1 kW of solar • Extreme heat reduces performance • Shade highly reduces performance

  9. Thin Film PV Products • Can be applied on many different materials • Production growing at high rate • Lower efficiencies: avg. 7%, up to 15% • Has potential for big cost reduction • 150 sq. ft. = 1 kW of solar • High heat somewhat reduces performance • Shading moderately reduces performance

  10. Green Building Technologies • Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPS)

  11. Green Building Technologies • Green Roofs

  12. Clean Vehicle Rebate Project • Rebates for ZEVs and ZEMs

  13. Energy Advisory Service Empowering clients with objective information and sound analysis to green your bottom line We provide feasibility consulting for a variety of needs: • Energy Efficiency (New/Retrofit) • Renewable Energy Projects (DG/Utility Scale) • LEED, Energy Star, HERS Verifications Contact: • EAS@energycenter.org , 858.244.1177
