  2. What is a constellation? • A picture in the night sky made by stars, that has a special story.

  3. What is a circumpolar constellation? • A circumpolar constellation is no matter what night it is, it will always be in the sky.

  5. It is also known as the Swan • Swan

  6. Stars that make up Cygnus • The brightest star, Deneb is the head of the swan. • The next brightest star is Sadr is the neck of the swan. • The last brightest star is Alberio is the tail of the swan. Using MS Paint or Kids Pix draw your constellation & point out the brightest star & the three brightest stars.

  7. Where can you find Cygnus in the sky? • Cepheus, Cassiopeia, and Pegasus • 21 hours to the right, and go down 42 degrees. • There are many meteor showers near this constellation.

  9. Myth of Cygnus • Cygnus was not always a swan, this is the sad story of how he became a swan. Apollo’s son tried to drive his father’s chariot across the sky. His father warned him not to drive it close to the earth for it would scorch the earth. Zeus struck him down with his mighty lightning bolt it killed him instantly. His lifeless body fell into a river on earth. Cygnus tried to get the body out of the water, but failed repeatedly. Zeus was impressed with Cygnus wanting to get his friend’s body out of the river, so he turned him into a swan and that is the story of how Cygnus became a swan.

  11. Meet a seasonal constellation • Taurus • You can see Taurus during the winter and early spring.

  12. It is also known as The Bull • Its star connections make out the look of a bull.

Stars that make up Taurus • The brightest star of them all is Aldebaran it is located as the left eye of the bull. • The next brightest star is elnath its is the tippy top of his right horn. • The last brightest star is Zet Tau part of the bull’s neck. Using MS Paint or Kids Pix draw your constellation & point out the brightest star & the three brightest stars.

  16. Myth of Taurus • Zeus went down to earth and seduced Europa as a bull. Later, Europa had a son that was half bull and half human his name was Minos. He was locked in a maze and fed human flesh. He was killed by a warrior called Theseus. Now he is only a legend of the night sky.
