  1. DAY 1 CH 14 SEC 1-3 • A) Describe what it meant to be a Renaissance a poem titled “Renaissance Man” • B) Paint the ceiling! Tape your canvas under a desk and create a piece of art while laying on your back just like Michelangelo • C) Choose three pieces of Renaissance art. Copy each, give a bio of the artist, describe and critique their work • D) Using a chart outline the decline of the Renaissance. What could have been done to prevent it from ending?

DAY 2 CH 14 SEC 4-5 CH 15 SEC 1 • A) Be a modern day Martin Luther, create a list of at least ten legitimate complaints against your school or community • B) Create a concept web of factors LEADING TO the Reformation and another web of effects OF the Reformation • C) Columbus man vs. Myth. Pretend you are on Columbus’s crew, write an anonymous letter to the editor describing the real Columbus • D) Essay: Which advancement during the scientific revolution do you believe contributed most to modern day society and why?

DAY 3 CH 15 SEC 2-4 • A) Essay: Imagine you lived in isolation your entire life, how would interaction with people of a different culture for the first time affect you? • B) Chinese called all foreigners “foreign devils” with a partner one person will take the role of a Chinese person, the other “the foreign devil” make a list of talking points to come to a common understanding of one another • C) Pretend you are on a merchant ship visiting ports of Asia. In your journal record your observations at each stop

  4. DAY 5 CH 16 SEC 1-3 • A) Make a poster promoting efforts to save the Mayan civilization • B) Pretend you are the host of a TV talk show hosting famous explorers. Interview each (minimum of 4) with five questions and answers for each • C) Essay: Why do some people in power – now and throughout history – think they have the authority to torture people? Create a parallel poster that illustrates your feelings on human torture

DAY 6 CH 16 SEC 4-5 CH 17 SEC 1 • A) Make an illustrated poster of the Atlantic Triangular Trade business • B) Pretend you are a slave, write a first hand account of your life prior to capture, your transport to the Americas via the Middle Passage, and life as a slave • C) Make a concept web of changes occurring in Europe during the 1500s and 1600s. Include topics such as diet, prices, new economic systems, new business method, social changes, and the like • D) Create a newspaper during the time of either Charles V or Philip II. Headings and articles must be written about the following: National news, international news, arts, literature, and the economy

DAY 7 CHA 17 SEC 2-5 • A) Using only pictures and one phrase make a poster either praising or showing disapproval of Louis XIV • B) Make a chart naming all leaders talked about in the sections covered along with their policies • C) Make two posters supporting the Thirty Year War, one as a Catholic another as a Protestant • D) Essay: Who was a more effective leader Peter the Great or Catherine the Great? What did they do to deserve the title “Great”?

  7. DAY 9 CH 18 SEC 1-3 • A) Essay: John Locke said everyone is born with a “clean slate” do you believe this is true? Use evidence and personal experience to back up your claim • B) Make a chart of a minimum of six Enlightenment thinkers with a description of their thoughts on each of the following: government, human nature, and economics • C) The ideas of the Enlightenment encouraged people to challenge existing ideas and to seek reform. Choose a topic in today’s society and challenge it, create a plan of reform • D) Make five bumper stickers supporting British government in the 1600s

DAY 10 CH 18 SEC 4 CH 19 SEC 1-2 • A) Choose your favorite Founding Father draw or copy a picture of them onto a piece of poster paper, using a minimum of six arrows pointing to them tell why they were so awesome and important • B) Take the side of either Patriot (fighting for American independence) or a Loyalist (loyal to Britain) and make a poster supporting your stance • C) Pretend you are leading the mob to storm the Bastille. Write a one page “pep talk” exciting the mob about to attack • D) Write a first hand account of one of the following events: peasants attacking the home of a nobleman, the August 4th meeting of the National Assemble, the women of Paris marching on Versailles, the procession of the royal family from Versailles to Paris, the writing of the Constitution of 1791

DAY 11 CH 19 SEC 3-5 • A) Take the position of either a moderate or radical during the French Revolution and prepare a war plan for keeping control • B) Create a poster either supporting or opposing Robespierre • C) Create a three part chart chronicling Napoleon’s rise to power, his time of power, and his fall from power • D) Create five “rumper” stickers for Napoleon’s horse indicating support or opposition to Napoleon • E) Create one poster depicting Napoleon as a hero of the French Revolution and another showing him as a villain

DAY 14 CH 20 SEC 1-2 • A) Make a poster comparing the economic system of the Middle Ages (the manor system) with the new capitalistic, agricultural economic system of England in 1700s • B) Create a circle of production diagram explaining what was happening during the agricultural revolution with farmers becoming richer with more food production, more workers in the city buying food, population growth, and more food being made • C) Make a map showing the spread of the Industrial Revolution • D) Make a museum display of the early Industrial Revolution. Show and explain new technology and include a first hand account of how life was impacted

DAY 15 CH 20 SEC 3-4 • A) Imagine you are one of the following: a miner, a factory worker, a child laborer, a working-class mother, a factory owner, a government inspector, a Luddite, a middle-class woman. Make a one page diary entry as your role. Include your activities and observations as well as your thoughts and emotions • B) Using a Venn diagram compare and contrast the theories between Owen and Malthus • C) Essay: Should everything be shared or should people be allowed to own as much personal property as they wish? Explain your answer using theories of people we spoke about in class and your own thoughts • D) Draw or print an illustration of one of the political theorist we spoke about in class, using cartoon thought bubbles write at least 5 things they may have believed

  12. DAY 16 CH 21 SEC 1-3 • A) Make a three part chart with the headings Conservatism, Liberalism, and Nationalism. List attitudes, goals, policies, and actions of each group • B) Write a first hand account of life prior to the French Revolution of 1848, and another account of life after the Revolution • C) Create a poster that illustrates the advantages of the Suez Canal over the old route to India around Africa
