  1. Challenges Faced In IT Training

  2. The average training budget in 2016 for large companies was $14.3 million, while mid-sized companies allocated an average of $1.4 million, and small companies dedicated an average of $376,251. Large Companies $14.3 million • Most companies have an ever-growing need to provide software and technical training for employees, but are under increased budget pressure to reduce per-seat training costs and eliminate travel expenses. • To address these pressures, we’ve seen many training organizations look to online and distance learning, and new self-paced education delivery methods to solve cost, location and personnel constraints. • The following PPT will help understand the challenges faced in IT training. Additionally, it will also explain how cloud-based labs can help & improve training process in the organization Mid-sized Companies $1.4 million Small Companies $376,251

  3. Challenges faced in IT Training Increasing Costs • One problem that all organizations can relate to is increasing learning delivery costs. • In-house IT training can be extremely costly due to the expense of hiring venues, resources and other equipment.

  4. Lack of Engagement • The traditional method lacks participant involvement, feedback, and meaning connection to the work environment thus inhibiting learning and transfer of training. • Since trainee just have to sit down and listen to the trainer in the old school lecture approach, they are not actively involved in the training program. • This can limit the amount of knowledge grasped throughout the training program & lead to the minimum engagement between instructor and trainee.

  5. Missing Hands-On Experience • In a Traditional classroom training learners don’t encounter on-job scenarios, hence they lack behind when they undertake the task at the job. • While learning it is essential for trainees to practice the real scenario. It is important for trainees to get “I do and I understand” environment rather than just encountering “I see and I remember” environment. • No matter how good the training session is, if the trainee misses on the hands-on experience retention rates suffer and skills are not learned.

  6. Ineffective Training Output • For too long training organizations have spent and spent to leverage the quality and output of their IT training; typically on things such as cumbersome hardware (like servers) can take long periods to get set up and then have to be routinely managed and updated by a full team of IT operatives • The IT team often need significant periods of time to work on upgrades or customizations– which can lead to disruptions in training, which in turn leads to reduced productivity and sometimes even a significant increase in employee frustration.

  7. Introducing Cloud-Based Labs After opting for Cloud-based labs a large insurance organization in America were able reduce training costs by 60% to $42,000 with a total benefit of $142,000 • Virtual training lab also known as cloud-based labs is the creation of a virtual instance of a physical environment, either on premise or on a cloud, to enable anyone to access a virtual equivalent of any environment anywhere, on-demand without the need to wait for a physical machine setup or additional hardware. • An instructor can create a classroom to suit his or her specific course needs and power the virtual machines on in a matter of minutes. By simply logging into the web client, a classroom environment can be assembled using server and machine templates. • These virtual training labs cater to the participants training needs in a virtual environment where they can actively learn, engage, and gain useful knowledge. Moreover, they also present to them the ease to go back and visit the scenarios as per their needs so that they can learn on-the-go from these online trainings.

  8. Advantages of Cloud-Based Training Lab • Hands-on labs – Break, Fix, learn different scenarios • Agility – Reduce provisioning time from weeks to minutes. • Self-Service – Break, Fix environments as you want without dependence on IT. • Pay as you use – Usage based pricing, no up-front fees, no commitment. • Repeatable Deployments – Snapshot/ blueprint entire environments. • Global Access – Use Anytime, Anywhere – All you need is an Internet connection.

  9. A Fortune 500 Company reduced its academy duration by 70% & saved over $240,000 by adopting cloud based on-demand virtual labs • Challenge • Wanted a ready platform to up-skill Level 2 & Level 3 resources & quickly respond to business opportunities • Were struggling to keep up business needs, as it was taking 12 weeks for them to up skill resources • Cost of training and certifying 100 Level 2 & Level 3 resources under as-is situation internally would cost the company: $340,000 • Solution • Role specific scenarios’ based custom courses and custom labs for each competency level. • Assessments to ensure demonstration of hands-on ability & competency to troubleshoot top 20 to 25 on-job scenarios within 4 hours of assessment duration • Basis the assessment Labjump provided the customer with a detailed competency mapping for entire batch basis smart reports & analytics • Result • Total training duration including assessments was reduced to 4 Weeks which translated in overall training duration being reduced by 70%. • Total cost of training and certifying 100 L2 & L3 resources using the Labjump platform was just $120,000. Overall training costs was reduced by 65%
