  1. Understanding the MRI scans Magnetic resonance imaging or MRI scan is a specialized X-ray that your doctor may ask you to do. The MRI scan makes use of strong radio waves and magnets to see what is present in your body. It lets you see the tissues, organs and bones in your body. The MRI scan will give a detailed view of your body and it is also a safe and a painless method that lets the doctor look for any abnormalities in your body. MRI scan is used to look at various diseases and diagnose some serious conditions. How is MRI scan different from the other scans? The MRI is similar to an X-ray where the scan takes the pictures of your bones. It is also like a CT scan that takes the pictures of your

  2. organs, muscles and bones. However, MRI scan works more closely similar to the CT scan as compared to an X ray. This is why many people confuse between MRI and CT scan because the machine that is used is almost the same. The MRI scan makes use of a magnetic field that is used in order to create an image. This does not expose you to any radiation, thus when you get an MRI scan then you will not be exposed to any health effects which could be harmful. The CT scan on the other hand makes use of radiations that are used to create images. If you get repeated CT scans done then this is harmful for you. The MRI scan takes at least an hour but a CT scan is quick and can be done in around 10 minutes. The MRI scan gives a clearer view of your abnormal tissues and this scan is better to look at your tendons and ligaments, your soft tissues and your spinal cord. The CT scan gives a higher picture quality of your bones and this is better to diagnose your chest or your lung problems as well as to detect some kinds of cancers. These are the reasons why an MRI scan is more expensive as compared to the CT scan. Why will the doctor ask you to get an MRI scan? There could be various reasons why your doctor may ask you to get an MRI scan done. The MRI scan lets the doctor find out the cause of your health and this lets him diagnose you correctly and also suggest the right treatment plan. Depending on what your conditions are the MRI scan can be used to diagnose tumors, heart and lung damage as well as problems with your ears and eyes.
