  1. LBA-DIS Working Group Report LBA Science Steering Committee Meeting São Paulo – SP - Brazil November 14-15, 2005 Laurindo Campos (INPA), Luiz Horta (CPTEC), Marilyn Gentry (UT) & Peter Griffith (NASA)

  2. LBA DIS WG Topics • Data Registration / Archive Status • Data Registration status for EU and BR teams • System Updates • CEOP Issues

  3. LBA Data Registration Status

  4. LBA Overall Status:Metadata Registered in Beija-flor N=788 7.3% Decrease in metadata data sets

  5. Data Registration Status by Component N=56 N=48 Con N=77 N=607

  6. Number of files in LBA DIS Archive, by disk area

  7. LBA Overall Status:Metadata Registered in Beija-flor (Cont.) Decrease in metadata record was due to the process of aggregating similar metadata records into consolidated datasets.

  8. LBA Overall Status:Data Volume Archived at LBA-DIS / CPTEC

  9. N=56 N=48 Con N=77 N=607 Data Registration Status by Component

  10. Number of files in LBA DIS Archive, by disk area TOTAL: 349.664

  11. Data Registration Details The emphasis is still on registering data sets over registering posters, per se. We are encouraging data providers to archive their posters with the data and add them as supporting information to the metadata rather than registering the posters as independent Beija-flor entries. This will result in a relatively small increase in the number of "Posters registered", compared to the volume of the storage under the /lba/posters.

  12. Data Registration/Archive Performance of EU and BR teams • DIS group has implemented an automatic process to identify and report all broken links of metadata records. • On-going process: • Continue analysis of data in archive but not registered -- theory is that much of the “missing” EU/BR & BR data is archived but not registered

  13. Data Archived but Not Registered • Develop a method to cross-reference [thousands of] data directories in archive with entries in Beija-flor • Record these findings in a “data tracking system” • Link the B-f registered data sets with corresponding archive directories • Identify the archive directories that are not represented in Beija-flor – who? what? when? where? … • Register the “found” data

  14. System Updates • We are receiving 2 additional Terabytes of disk space to the LBA server. • Beija-flor and Metadata Editor Training classes, Metadata registration and Data submission on-Site.

  15. System Updates (cont.) • IAI has implemented a Beija-flor like system which is 100% compatible with LBA, thus allowing us to share data. LBA has a development site with IAI as a data sources.

  16. CEOP ISSUES • The LBA-DIS is not receiving LBA data in a satisfactory manner and therefore cannot comply with what was committed to CEOP.

  17. LBA Data Status:CEOP potential data 1. LBA Brasilia • EOP-3 – No SONDE data available. • EOP-4 – No SONDE data submitted. 2. Caxiuana • No data available 3. Manaus • Submitting data but at very slow pace.

  18. LBA Data Status:CEOP potential data (Cont.) 4. LBA Pantanal • EOP-3 – No FLX, TWR or SONDE data submitted. • EOP-4 – No data submitted. 5. LBA Rondonia • EOP-3 – First half SFC and FLX submitted. No TWR or SONDE submitted either half. • EOP-4 – First half SFC and STM submitted. Issues have been sent to LBA (21 March and 8 April 2005). No SONDE data submitted.

  19. LBA Data Status:CEOP potential data (Cont.) 6. Santarem • No data from April 2004 to July 2005 due to hardware problem: tower fell down. According to Humberto Rocha, the instruments are still being tested as of October 26, 2005.

  20. LBA-DIS New Opportunities • Work with Antonio Nobre to implement a system to display real time hydrological data from Bacia ASU. • Google type search to enhance Beija-flor (Google Appliance/Desktop/Scholar/Nature).
