Student Growth Measures • Special Considerations • Consider how instruction is delivered. • Find Best Fit • Every situation will be different, but look for ways to not re-invent the wheel. • Be Flexible • In year 1, find growth measures that are manageable and be open to changing for year 2. • Don’t Stress • You already show growth with your students, we just need to find a way to quantify it.

  3. Solo or Shared? • Should be writing your own SLO’s or getting your own STAR report? • If so, what subjects? Which students? • Should you be sharing SLO’s or STAR reports? • If so, with who? Which students?

  4. Going Solo? Use STAR Reading or Math data for a group of students you instruct separately from another teacher. Write 2 SLO’s for a group of students you instruct separately from another teacher.

  5. Can You Share? • Can You Share Grade-level or Team? • Students • Assessments • SLO’s • STAR Data • Value-Added • Take all students or just a sub-set of students?

  6. Start by Reflecting on Your Instructional Situation Student Growth Measures should be reflective of your teaching situation. Let your situation guide your decisions for SGM’s. Pick the most important or largest groups for SGM’s.

  7. Assessments & Growth Targets Unless warranted, use grade-level appropriate assessments. Can modify growth targets for students according to identified needs.

  8. Special Considerations Like teachers should have like growth measures. Need 6 students per growth measure (i.e. SLO, STAR report). Student growth measures need to be academic, not behavioral. If you cannot fit into these circumstances, you may not have SGM’s as part of your evaluation and will need to discuss this with your evaluator.

  9. Work Time I will do my best to answer specific question. Team with like teachers to find similar growth measures that will work for you as a group. Follow through the SGM worksheet to try to determine your best SGM’s.
