  1. He gives more grace James 4:6 • “When the world competes for our love, resulting in our divided loyalty, God does not immediately cast us off, but continues to give more grace.” D. Edmond Hiebert, James, p. 258

  2. Pride vs. Humility • The proud rarely think they are wrong (or admit they are wrong). • The humble are constantly aware that they are or could be wrong. • (James 4:6) "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

  3. Search me O God and know my heart… • Is it my Ethics – from my greed/envy? • Is it my Morals – from my lust/longings? • Is it my Addictions – from my emptiness/hurts? • Is it my Attitudes/Anger – from my emotions?

  4. How is Satan influencing me? • Is it my Ethics – from my greed/envy? • Is it my Morals – from my lust/longings? • Is it my Addictions – from my emptiness/hurts? • Is it my Attitudes/Anger – from my emotions? • Is it my Guilt/fear/discouragement – from a wrong view of God’s grace and truth?

  5. How God responds to true confession • (Psalms 32:5) Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you forgave the guilt of my sin. • (Psalms 51:17) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. • (Hebrews 4:16) Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

  6. The way up is down • (Matthew 5:3-5) "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. {4} Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. {5} Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. • (Job 5:11) The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. • (1 Peter 5:5-6) All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." {6} Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
