  2. Foreign Policy and Internationalism • Decisions about how to deal with other countries. • Clothes, many things you eat, shows and music may come from other countries.

  3. Influences of Foreign Policy • Dictatorship- Leaders make decisions without consulting the people • Democracy- Foreign Policy reflects beliefs, values, and goals and the countries citizens. Individuals, groups and collective influence governments decisions on foreign policy. • Goals help guide actions of the government. These goals should reflect values of citizens and help develop the future of the country. For example- Canadians have the right to vote and have freedom of speech which influences Canada’s foreign policy.

Foreign Policy in a Globalizing • Governments and diplomats were main players in international affairs until after world war II. • Increased pace of globalization lowered roles played by nation-states in international affairs. • Multinational corporations and international businesses play a more important role. • Domestic and foreign policy are so closely linked it is hard to distinguish between the two.

Who Are Doctors without Borders and When were they started? • Created by Doctors and Journalists in 1971. • Independent of any political, military, or religious agendas. • They are doctors, nurses, logistics experts, administrators, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, and mental health professionals. • International medicinal humanitarian organization.

What does Doctors without Borders Do? • Provide medical aid to countries whose peoples survival is threatened- they are neutral in cases of armed conflict, and will provide care based on need only. • Challenges inadequacies or abuse of aid system and advocate improved medical treatment and protocols. • Speak out to bring awareness to neglected crisis's

  7. Where are Doctors without Borders? • Doctors without borders providing aid in over 60 countries. • They have 19 affairs around the world. Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

  8. Why was Doctors without Borders Created? • To provide care for those who need it. • To create better medical treatment, and protocol. • To raise awareness for on going crisis’s. • To better humanity 

  9. How does Doctors without Borders promote Internationalism? • Prevent/Cure Disease. • Promote Human Rights.

  10. Is the Organization Successful? • It’s goals are worth while. • It is meeting its goals. For example they are working in refugee camps, providing health care, water purification, and vaccination. Hold rally’s to raise awareness, one on going now is “Critical voices from the war in Eastern Congo”

  11. Is the Organization Successful Cont. • They come to peoples aid as it is needed every time. • They have achieved long term goals; -Calling for military service in Rwanda. -Lowered the price of HIV/AIDS treatment.

  12. Extent to which Doctors without Borders promote Internationalism? Doctors without borders promotes internationalism to a fairly high extent by preventing and curing diseases, and protecting human rights. They are going into other countries around the world to provide medical aid, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.

  13. MSF received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its members' continuous effort to provide medical care in acute crises, as well as raising international awareness of potential humanitarian disasters. Source Two Source One Source Three
