  1. Year 11 ends. What begins? Who are you now? Will you still be that person in ten or twenty years?

  2. Hands up… • ..if you are looking forward to being “grown up” • ..if you aren’t looking forward to it • ..if you think you are already “grown up” • ..if you don’t want ever to grow up

  3. I Had A Real Good Mother and Father • I had a real good mother and fatherAnd they surely stood the testAnd now they’re in bright gloryAnd are sleeping on the savior’s breast

  4. I Don’t Wanna Grow Up Seems like folks turn into things That they’d never want The only thing to live for is today… How the hell did it get here so soon I don’t wanna grow up.

  5. A few ideas • “Most people don't grow up. Most people age. They find parking spaces, honor their credit cards, get married, have children, and call that maturity. What that is, is aging.” ― Maya Angelou • “You know your children are growing up when they stop asking you where they came from and refuse to tell you where they're going.” ― P.J. O'Rourke • “Everyone else we knew growing up is the same: image of their parents, no matter how loud they told themselves they'd be different” ― Tana French, In the Woods

  6. A few thoughts over the years • “But you’re all right, your life’s sorted. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me.” • Mr C: You want to be treated as adults… Students: No, we don’t. We’re not adults and we don’t want to be. • “I thought that when you reached thirty, your musical taste just disappeared.” • An old man in Sainsbury’s…or anywhere. Everyone old was young once.

  7. A brilliant place to be: where you are • Everyone would love to be 16 again…if they knew what they know now. • Because you are brimming full of potential, with the future lying ahead of you like a Promised Land. • We have thoroughly enjoyed watching you grow and flourish in your three years here.

  8. Three thoughts from me for free 1. You have started to become the person you will always be. Which bits do you want to keep and which to change? 2. The next seven weeks are about enabling you to fulfil that fantastic potential inside all of you. 3. Feel fantastically proud of where you have come over the past few years and keep that youthful enthusiastic quality forever.

  9. Finally, two writers: • “And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come” - William Wordsworth • “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” ― C.S. Lewis
