Endocrine Disruption and Gonadal Development in Croaker from Hypoxic Sites

This study investigates the effects of hypoxia on the gonadal development and endocrine functions of croaker fish collected from hypoxic sites in October and November 2003. It explores the percentage of oocytes at various developmental stages, fecundity, plasma testosterone and vitellogenin levels, and gonadosomatic index (GSI). Data reveal significant differences between normoxic and hypoxic sites, indicating that hypoxia impacts reproductive health. Findings suggest that monitoring these indicators can help assess the consequences of environmental stressors on aquatic life.
