  10. CTSA Consortium Strategic Planning:Purpose, Process, Results, Next Steps

  11. CTSA Consortium Strategic Plan:Purpose • Identify high priority, consortium-wide goals and implementation steps • Determine appropriate organization and structure to achieve those goals

  12. CTSA Strategic Planning Timeline/Process • July: CCOC Operations Group met • Outcome: Identified 9 interim priority areas • 1. CQI Clinical Research Management System • 2. Federated Career Support • 3. National Resource Inventory • 4. Clinical Trial “Network of Networks” • 5. Data Sharing Network • 6. National Phenotyping System • 7. National Model for Community Engagement • 8. Social Networking Initiative • 9. Catalyze Improved Health Through Research • August: CCOC proposes changes in nomenclature and governance • CCOC becomes CTSA Consortium Steering Committee • Steering Committees become Key Function Committees • Oct 6-7: CCOC Strategic Planning meeting • Facilitator from outside CTSA program • Committee Chairs Invited • 9 Breakout Groups: Discussion of nine areas, prioritization • Sequence • Importance

  13. Strategic Plan Results: Four Strategic Goals “The goal of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program is to improve human health by transforming the research and training environment thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of clinical and translational research.” 1) Enhancing National Clinical and Translational Research Capability • clinical research management • research infrastructure • phenotyping - human and preclinical models 2) Enhancing the Training and Career Development of Clinical and Translational Scientists 3) Enhancing Consortium-Wide Collaborations • social networking • inventory of resources • data sharing 4) Enhancing the Health of Our Communities and the Nation • community engagement • public health policy

  14. Achieving Goals: Revising Organization & Governance (Evolving)

  15. Next Steps • CTSA PIs are volunteering to serve on Strategic Goal Committees • Identifying knowledge/expertise • Meeting is planned for January • Administrators to gather information from Key Function Committees and map to relevant goals • Key Function Committees to identify how to contribute to goals

  16. Discussion FrameworkDiscussion Topics: Defining Role for Evaluation Participation in Strategic Goal Committees Future Plans, Organization and Operation of Evaluation KFC Transition Planning for Evaluation KFC Leadership

  17. Discussion Framework:Defining Evaluation Committee Role • What are some specific ways we can contribute to the four strategic goals? • What projects/activities are already underway that are relevant to bring forward? • What recommendations do you have about representation and expertise needed on these groups?

  18. Current Organization of Evaluation KFC • Two year terms for all Chairs • Key Function Chair term ends in September 2009 • Interest Group Chair terms end in November 2009

  19. Discussion Framework Evaluation KFC Purpose & Organization • What changes, if any, should we make within our existing Evaluation KFC (i.e., adding/eliminating/ refocusing activities) • Are there any changes you would recommend to our current organization (i.e., frequency of meetings, location, etc)? • Would you like to develop a more active liaison function with the other Key Function Committees? For example, to increase awareness about evaluation issues and metric development occurring in other committees.

  20. Transition Plans for Evaluation KFC LeadershipDraft Timeline • January: Solicit nominations for Key Function and Interest Group Chairs • February: Conduct poll and announce new Chairs • Spring Face to Face: Begin transition period • October: New chairs assume leadership (synch with fiscal year calendar)
