The BQCL Mission Statement The Blue Quill Community League strives to provide a sense of community, and to enhance the quality of life in the greater Blue Quill Community, by providing: facilities for community use; excellent social, recreational and cultural programs; and focussed advocacy efforts. 2009 BQCL AGM

Our Community Our Borders The Community League boundaries will be described as follows: from a point on the Intersection of 119 Street NW and 34 Avenue NW, east along 34 Avenue NW to 111 Street NW, south along 111 Street NW to the intersection point with Blackmud Creek, following Blackmud Creek and then Whitemud Creek in the direction of water flow to an intersection point with the imaginary westerly extension of Saddleback Road to Whitemud Creek, east along the extension to 119 Street NW, north along 119 Street NW to 34 Avenue NW. The boundaries are to follow centre lines of roadways and predominant streambed. 2009 BQCL AGM

  16. Year in Review – Executive • Make no mistake… • The League IS a business • Between revenue and expenses, our cash flow this year was close to $400,000 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Executive • Started the year with 9 Directors positions filled • Over the course of the year, Directors count dropped to 8 • Number of Directors (quorum) required to introduce and pass motions = 7 • Had to defer motions and hold special meetings, so that motions could be tabled and voted on and minutes approved • At this AGM, there are several positions available. 2009 BQCL AGM

  18. Year in Review – Membership • Director: John Van derVeen • Membership year runs from September 1 to August 31 in alignment with EFCL. The League starts with about 100 members after Fall Registration (Sep) and rises to about 220-250 after Spring Registration (Feb) and during the summer months. Yearly Membership Trends 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Membership • Director: John Van der Veen • Fees were reduced last year to be in line with most other leagues. • Memberships can now be purchased online from EFCL (www.efcl.org), but service fees will apply. • We encourage you to purchase at registration times. No extra fees are charged. • Volunteer Cheques are now “per user/per program” rather than a single “per membership” fee 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • Interior Improvement Highlights • Camera system installed • Replacement of hall kitchen grill fire suppression system • Replacement of old fire exit lights with low/self-powered LED exit lights • Basement repainted (Thank you Scouts!) 2009 BQCL AGM

  21. Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • Exterior Improvement Highlights • Volunteer Gardener maintained flower beds and bushes! THANK YOU to Wanda Vlahac!! • Exterior lighting replaced with energy efficient, vandal resistant fixtures • New basketball goals (hoops and nets) installed 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • Upcoming Interior Repairs/Upgrades • Mirror replacement in basement & floor trim • Painting • More “Crash bars” (handles) on doors starting to wear out (4 were replaced last year) • Some are close to 30 years old. • Loft Renovation/AV system 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • Upcoming Exterior Repairs • New Tennis nets and wind/sun screens • Auto-closing and locking Tennis Court Gates • Tennis Court resurfacing • Volleyball court revitalization • Basketball court resurfacing & fence repairs BUT… We’ll need funds for these!! 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Programs • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • Playschool • Playschool formed their own society in 2008 • They will be a paying tenant starting April 2011 • All Playschool board positions are filled, with the same teacher returning for a 3rd year! • Current enrolment of 49 children, up from last year (46) • Classes being offered are Mon-Wed. Fri AM & PM for 4 year olds, and Tues – Thurs AM for 3 year olds • Enrolment for 3 and 4 year old classes start in March 2010 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Programs • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • City of Edmonton Programs • Girls & Boys Groups & Shop and Drop programs (8 programs/121 kids) • 2 Big Bin events this year – BIG SUCCESS! • Capital Health Flu Clinic • Not held this year due to H1N1 virus • Beavers/Cubs/Scouts • 42 members between the ages 5-16 running on Mon, Tue, Wed & Thurs evenings in the main hall. • Good working relationship between Scouts Canada and BQCL • Brownies & Girl Guides • Tues & Wed evenings in the loft and basement. 2009 BQCL AGM

  27. Year in Review – Sports • Director: Jessica Smith • Soccer • Indoor - 3 teams • Outdoor - 17 teams • Basketball • No teams (declining enrolment) • Tennis • City Run Programs – good attendance • Martial Arts • No longer being offered 2009 BQCL AGM

Thank you Barb Waldie!! • We need more help this year to make things even better • Coaches and Team Coordinators • Referee Coordinators • Uniform Coordinators • SWEMSA liaison • Please consider volunteering for these or other Sports Coordinator positions! 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Fundraising • Director: Jennifer Hempsey • Organizing Casino for 2010 • Expected revenue: about $62,000 • Must last until next casino (2 years) • Casino is the single biggest revenue source • We will need volunteers for 2010 Casino! • Other Grant Opportunities • Major Community Facilities Program • Community Facility Enhancement Program • Community Initiatives Program 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Civics • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • South-LRT (S-LRT) Extension • Generally on-schedule • Overhead pedestrian crossings above 111 Street at Century Park LRT station scheduled to be available for public use by end of this month • Century Park Station due to be open in Spring 2010 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Civics • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • South-LRT (S-LRT) Extension • Temporary (gravel lot) Park and Ride will go up at Century Park with a total of 1234 spaces. • A permanent Park and Ride facility for the South LRT is being constructed in Heritage Valley (Ellerslie Road/127 Street) with scheduled completion in 2011. 2009 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Civics • Director: Vacant (Garth Williams) • First Time Home Buyers Program • Now called First Place Edmonton • www.firstplaceedmonton.com • South Edmonton Pilot location is in Greenview (located in southeast Edmonton east of 62 Street between 38th and 40th Avenue). • Urgency has diminished with housing market “glut” and economic downturn 2009 BQCL AGM

BQCL responded, requesting confirmation that the site would NOT be at the site of the toboggan hill. 2009 BQCL AGM
