  5. Defining Effective PLCs What is the purpose of PLCs?

  6. PLCs in Action Collaborative meetings of educators in which data-driven decisions are made to improve teacher’s instruction leading to improvedstudents outcomes.

  7. Protocols for each PLC will be rolled out slowly over time throughout the year with intentionality. You will be trained on each protocol as it is being used and you will have time to get comfortable with the protocol.

  9. PLAN • This time in a continuous improvement model is when teachers plan lessons to ensure every child in their classroom meets the learning targets of the lesson.

  10. Protocol During the planning phase there will be a protocol entitled: Standards in Practice It helps educators design rigorous assignments.

  12. Implement During continuous improvement teachers will implement what they have planned. Unpacking a Standard If a standard needs to be unpacked. They will do this prior to implementation.

  14. Assess Formative assessment occurs during instruction to see where students are in the learning process. Summative assessment occurs once teachers have finished instructing on a topic. Common Formative Assessment

  16. Analyze CFAs and other forms of student data outcomes will be analyzed. This data feedback will help us understand how to change our instruction to meet student needs. Data Feedback Strategy (DFS)

  19. Reflect Once we learn information from data we must develop plans to support interventions for struggling students and enrichment for students that are performing above grade level. This takes us back to the continuous cycle at PLAN.

  22. Today we will practice with the protocol “Unpacking a Standard” This protocol is used if students have struggled with or are anticipated to struggle with a standard. Let’s watch a video clip of an “unpacking” protocol.

  28. Role Play Activity • The goal of the facilitator is to engage teachers in productive dialogue about their students data and their response to the data. • Find a partner. One of you will be the facilitator and one the teacher.

PLC Expectations • PLCs will meet weekly • Primary, Intermediate and Middle Schools will have one facilitator per school • High Schools will have 5 facilitators • PLCs will focus on student achievement • PLCs will focus in the areas covered today of PLAN, IMPLEMENT, ASSESS, ANALYZE, and REFLECT
