  5. Opening Hymn We sing our opening hymn: When we walk with the Lord LHS 877 CAL 293 John H. Sammis 1846-1919

  6. When we walk with the Lord 1. When we walk with the Lord, in the light of his Word what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do his good will, he abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey:

  7. When we walk with the Lord Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

  8. When we walk with the Lord 2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, but his smile quickly drives it away; not a doubt nor a fear, not a sigh nor a tear, can abide while we trust and obey:

  9. When we walk with the Lord Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

  10. When we walk with the Lord 3. But we never can prove the delights of his love until all on the altar we lay; for the favour he shows, and the joy he bestows, are for them who will trust and obey:

  11. When we walk with the Lord Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

  12. When we walk with the Lord 4. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet, or we’ll walk by his side in the way; what he says, we will do; where he sends, we will go - never fear, only trust and obey:

  13. When we walk with the Lord Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. †

  33. FIRST READING 2 Kings 5:1-14CEV The healing of Naaman the Syrian R: The first reading for the sixth Sunday after Epiphany is written in chapter 5 of 2nd Kings beginning at verse1.

  34. 2 Kings 5:1-14 Naaman was the commander of the Syrian army. The LORD had helped him and his troops defeat their enemies, so the king of Syria respected Naaman very much. Naaman was a brave soldier, but he had leprosy.

  35. 2 Kings 5:1-14 2One day while the Syrian troops were raiding Israel, they captured a girl, and she became a servant of Naaman's wife. 3Some time later the girl said, "If your husband Naaman would go to the prophet in Samaria, he would be cured of his leprosy.”

  36. 2 Kings 5:1-14 4When Naaman told the king what the girl had said, 5the king replied, "Go ahead! I will give you a letter to take to the king of Israel." • Naaman left and took along seven hundred fifty pounds of silver, one hundred fifty pounds of gold, and ten new outfits.

  37. 2 Kings 5:1-14 6He also carried the letter to the king of Israel. It said, "I am sending my servant Naaman to you. Would you cure him of his leprosy?" 7When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes in fear and shouted, "That Syrian king believes I can cure this man of leprosy! Does he think I'm God with power over life and death?

  38. 2 Kings 5:1-14 He must be trying to pick a fight with me." 8As soon as Elisha the prophet heard what had happened, he sent the Israelite king this message: "Why are you so afraid? Send the man to me, so that he will know there is a prophet in Israel.”

  39. 2 Kings 5:1-14 9Naaman left with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house. 10Elisha sent someone outside to say to him, "Go wash seven times in the Jordan River. Then you'll be completely cured.” 11But Naaman stormed off, grumbling, "Why couldn't he come out and talk to me?

  40. 2 Kings 5:1-14 I thought for sure he would stand in front of me and pray to the LORD his God, then wave his hand over my skin and cure me. 12What about the Abana River or the Pharpar River? Those rivers in Damascus are just as good as any river in Israel. I could have washed in them and been cured.”

  41. 2 Kings 5:1-14 13His servants went over to him and said, "Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, you would have done it. So why don't you do what he said? Go wash and be cured.”

  42. 2 Kings 5:1-14 14Naaman walked down to the Jordan; he waded out into the water and stooped down in it seven times, just as Elisha had told him. Right away, he was cured, and his skin became as smooth as a child's. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  43. Psalm 30 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 30. 1I will praise you, LORD! You saved me from the grave and kept my enemies from celebrating my death. C: 2I prayed to you, LORD God, and you healed me, 3saving me from death and the grave.

  44. Psalm 30 CEV R: 4Your faithful people, LORD, will praise you with songs and honour your holy name.   C: 5Your anger lasts a little while, but your kindness lasts for a lifetime. At night we may cry, but when morning comes we will celebrate.
