  3. Organization • Adhere to class policies • No late work! • Know deadlines for work when absent • Use a daily planner • Keep track of ALL assignments and due dates • Parent’s are encouraged to check planners • $5 at the bookstore

Study Skills • Homework • Complete all homework • Neatly: Homework that cannot be read = No grade. • Clearly: Homework without a name = No grade. • Honestly: “We did it together” = No grade. • Timely: Procrastination = Poor grades. • Accurately: Grades are seldom given for completion only! • Tutoring • Take advantage of tutors available through NHS. • Take advantage of tutoring times offered by teachers. • Grades • Check online • Communicate with teachers if there are discrepancies

  5. Tutoring Hours • Monday through Friday 5th hour lunch Room 1236 • Monday through Thursday After school 2:30-3:30 Room 1219

  6. Self-Advocacy • Encourage your student to advocate for themselves. • If they have a question, remind them to ask. • If they need help, invite them to find time to meet with their teacher. • Take responsibility for missing work when absent.

  7. Becoming a Part of the School CommunityRecommend that your student: • Attend a school play • Attend a school athletic event • Attend a school music or dance concert • Join a club • Volunteer outside of the school day • Show gratitude • Smile! • Visit the library; read a book • Sit with someone new at lunch • Converse with the student next to them in a class • Introduce themselves to a staff member, i.e. security guard, custodian, or office staff

Behavior“Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.”-- Winston Churchill • Invite your student to show respect by: • Obeying classroom and school rules • Never cheating • Cooperating with teachers and classmates • Following “The Golden Rule” of “Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.” • Honoring others in both challenges and triumphs • Taking responsibility for their actions
