  2. Climate of Mutual Respect1. Creating a Context for Positive Dialogue a. Learn all you can about the nature and background of the student. (Information Sheets) b. Learn about the student’s likes, dislikes, goals, dreams, etc. (Individual Conferences) c. Show an interest in the student outside the classroom. (Examples) d. Write a letter to the student and his parents expressing your appreciation for the opportunity to teach and work with the student.

  3. Teacher Attitude 1. Maintaining A Positive Mental Attitude a. Possibilities- See Potential Instead of Problems. b. Opportunistic- “Acres of Diamonds” c. Sincere- Children can spot a “phony” a mile off. d. Influence- The influence principle (The Circle of Influence)

  4. e. ThankfulSpirit- Appreciation for the student as part of the classroom community is expressed. Mature people can have a thankful spirit regardless of the circumstances. “Molder of Dreams” – Guy Doud f. Innovative- They use their imagination in a positive way. g. Valiant- They are people of valor, courage, and bravery. They take positive stands on issues. It takes courage to make positive statements when everyone around you is being critical and negative.
