  2. Why Am I Interested When I had a broken arm and saw what it looked like on the x-ray I was fascinated with x-rays machines and what they could do. After researching this career I chose Radiation instead, although it is a little different from an x-ray tech.

  3. EDUCATION AND TRAINING • Must have a bachelor's degree in radiation therapy • May be qualified if you complete an associate’s degree program in radiography • Most states require applicants to pass the ARRT certification examination

  4. College Courses • 3300 Patient Care in Radiation Oncology • 3302 Radiologic Science and Medical Imaging. • 3310 Physics of Radiation Therapy I • 3314 Radiation Therapy Sectional Anatomy • 3340 Oncologic Pathology.

  5. DESCRIPTION A radiation therapist uses specific machines to fight cancer in the human body. They have to make specific plans before the procedures for safety. They have to stick to those procedures for the treatment so that nothing goes wrong.

TASKS • Position patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription. • Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards. • Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation. • Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification. • Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. • Maintain records, reports and files as required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings and patients' reactions. • Conduct most treatment sessions independently, in accordance with the long-term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient's physician. • Calculate actual treatment dosages delivered during each session.
