Automated Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a key part of the FAA NextGen transformation ADS-B will allow air traffic controllers & pilots to see the location of every equipped aircraft Pilots will also have real-time access to weather and flight information (ADS-B In) ADS-B Out is currently mandated for implementation by 1 January 2020, though that may be extended due to delays in rollout

Tentative CAP ADS-B Plans • Begin Installations in FY15 • Why not now? • Funding: Equipment and installations cost is expected to be $6K to $8K in G1000s, or $15 to $18K for older aircraft because of the need for the large MFD • Vendors have indicated that software changes may take place forcing costly updates to current equipment • Options are changing and prices are dropping as more choices come to market

Tentative CAP ADS-B Plans • Initial Focus will be on G1000 equipped aircraft, and others already outfitted with large MFDs • Add into procurement contracts if possible • Retro-fit existing aircraft • Next will be older aircraft expected to be in the fleet for an extended period (Time TBD) • Finally, portable ADS-B units will be used to fill gaps for aircraft not expected to remain in the fleet long enough to warrant procurement
