  1. Why Do You See So Many Laneway Houses in Vancouver These Days So you might have been thinking lately that from where these beautiful laneway houses come from as you walk by the street and find a new laneway house probably every new month. The popularity of these laneway houses is increasing day by day and there are lots of reasons behind that. The main reason behind the popularity of the laneway houses is that the laneway house in Vancouver costs much less and they are pretty affordable to build. Upon building the same, it can be pretty useful to you in many terms – you can put it up for rent, you can use it as your own office, you can use it for your own other usage or you can even live in it.

  2. There are many reasons why these laneway houses have grown so popular and you see them almost everywhere these days. If you don’t know it yet, since the City of Vancouver approved laneway homes in 2009, 972 permits have been issued and more than 500 laneway houses have been built. What is a laneway house exactly? A laneway home is a small house or cottage like structure built on an existing property, usually in the back yard and opening onto the back lane. The average size is about 500 square feet, with a large proportion of them being one-bedroom units.

  3. This type of housing is becoming increasingly popular, especially in Metro Vancouver. The introduction of laneway homes was driven by former Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan, in order to address urban density in pre-existing neighborhoods while preserving the single-family feel of neighborhoods. There are no ways we can stop explaining the benefits of the laneway houses. They are extremely beneficial and you can be pretty happy with the fact that a laneway house even improves the value of your property in the real estate market.

  4. If you are thinking about building a laneway house, you must make sure that you have the authority to do so. However, the next important thing is to approach a proper laneway house builder so that you make no mistake on your part. Approaching the wrong builders will surely put you into troubles to a great extent. Make sure you are with the right people. Understand all the needs and benefits of the same first before making any decisions for the same.
