  2. Evaluation Criteria for Supervised Teaching • Provides each fellow with required supervised training in instruction • Provides adequate instruction on effective techniques • Provides extensive supervision, and • Provides evaluation.

  3. Supervised Teaching Experiences • Post Masters Certificate in Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions • 3 required courses and one elective • One of the required courses is a practicum • 12 credits total

  4. Criteria One and Two • Provides each fellow with required supervised training in instruction • Provides adequate instruction on effective techniques Achieved in two online or in class room courses

  5. Theoretical Foundations of Teaching and Learning • Provides a foundation in theory and application of essential knowledge for education • Content includes the teaching/learning process, the learning environment, organizational standards, theories of learning, and organization of teaching and learning

  6. Instructional Strategies and Assessment of Learning • Provides instructional strategies appropriate to the learning style of adults and to the topic • A full range of educational technology and simulation technology • Theory and practice of the assessment of learning • Basic measurement principles of reliability and validity, test construction, assessing skill acquisition and competence, and interpreting results from measures

  7. Criteria Three and Four • Provides extensive supervision, and • Provides evaluation Achieved in second required course and practicum

  8. Practicum in Teaching • Applied practicum of teaching experiences (average of 9 hours/week - 8 of these in practicum activities and 1 in seminar activities) • Individual aspects of the practicum will be negotiated between the student, preceptor, and faculty facilitator in a learning contract • Synthesis of aspects of role development activities in this course and aspects of course/program evaluation will be accomplished in an asynchronous on-line seminar.

  9. Evaluation of Teaching In the second course • Videotape teaching experience • Evaluated by peers and faculty • Feedback on improving performance In the teaching practicum teaching is evaluated by the learners, preceptor and student

  10. Teaching Grand Rounds • Monthly forums • Topics including learned centered education, on line teaching strategies and evaluation of teaching effectiveness

  11. Example GAANN Supervised Experience • Worked with preceptor in the pathophysiology course • Test item refinement and test item analysis • Lectured in course on Hypothermia in Traumatic Brain Injury
