  1. CODE SILVER Active Shooter MedStar southern Maryland Hospital center (MSMHC)Emergency management Policy

  2. Code Silver • An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and other populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly.

  3. Code Silver ALL employees can help prevent and prepare for potential active shooter situations. This course provides guidance to individuals, including managers and employees, so that they can prepare to respond to an active shooter situation.

  4. Code Silver • Healthcare organizations are increasingly vulnerable as events involving armed individuals and guns are on the rise. Incidents of a violent nature can never be entirely prevented; the challenge is to plan and protect the occupants in a healthcare facility from a threat with potential for significant consequences. • The active shooter “Code Silver” event may be over in 10 to 15 minutes, leaving little time to react.
