  3. Partner Share Adjectives that look like verbs that end with –ing or ed: The whispering wind blew across the city. Identify the participle in the following sentences The smiling child ateher ice cream. The waving man honked his horn.

  4. Participial Phrases- are phrases that makes the rest of the sentence more interesting,. Examples: Participial phrases can be placed at the beginning of a sentence. Holding the sword steady, the knight walked tothe dragon. Participial Phrases can be placed in the middle of a sentence. The knight, holding the sword steady, approached the dragon. Non Example: In the dark, I enjoy watching horror movies. prepositional phrases begins with a preposition

Combining Sentences with participial phrases • Read the sentences • Identify the participial phrase and the noun it is describing • Combine sentenced by placing the participial phrase at the beginning or middle of the sentence • Use a comma 1.The fire fighters put out the fires. 2.They worked around the clock. Working around the clock, the fire fighters put out the fires. The fire fighters, working around the clock, put out the fires.
