  1. Why focus on building community capacity? To transform social care and deliver personalisation we need to reach beyond traditional care services. Promoting social capital and building community capacity is a vital part of the equation because the relationships, exchanges, groups, amenities, services and wider communities that form part of everyday life are fundamental to health, wellbeing, and independence. Put simply, care services can only help us with part of our quality of life.

  2. The Building Community Capacity journey • 2007 - project originated as part of the Putting People First delivery team at the Department of Health. • 2010- the project transferred to the Think Local Act Personal Partnership. TLAP: developed a learning network; developed evidence of cost effectiveness; developed case studies; developed BCC leadership programme with partners • 2013- Think Local Act Personal and Public Health England test a framework with a number of Health and Wellbeing Boards • 2014 – Strong, Inclusive Communities, a framework for Health and Wellbeing Boards published

  3. Getting started • Focus on assets not only needs – time for a JSN&AA? • Focus on all levels of prevention • Rethink integration • Take a risk stratified approach • Involve universal service providers • Enable community and cross-sector leadership
