Archeology- the study of past by looking at what people left behind Artifacts- objects made by people (ancient artifacts include tools, weapons, and pottery) Fossils- remains of plants and animals that have been preserved from an earlier time Paleontology- study fossils to learn what the world was like long ago Anthropology- study of human culture and how it developed over time History and Science (who studies what)

Lucy- Human ancestor fossil discovered Ethiopia (located in Eastern Africa), her remains are over 3.2 million years old The discovery of Lucy is important because she walked upright on two legs (bipedal) She lived long before homo sapiens (modern humans) Homo sapiens developed as a species (a class of individuals with similar physical characteristics) Human Discoveries

  4. Scientist have found nearly 40% of Lucy’s skeleton. • In 1992 an older fossil was found in Ethiopia, “Ardi” is dated to be nearly 4 million years old! LUCY ARDI
