Course Content: • SKIN PUNCTURE EQUIPMENT AND • PROCEDURES • SPECIAL COLLECTIONS AND • POINT-OF-CARE TESTING • ARTERIAL PUNCTURE • PROCEDURES • NON BLOOD SPECIMENS • SPECIMEN HANDLING AND • PROCESSING • HISTORY OF PHLEBOTOMY • QUALITY ASSURANCE AND LEGAL ISSUES • INFECTION CONTROL, SAFETY AND FIRST AID • MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY • ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY • BLOOD COLLECTION EQUIPMENT • SPECIMEN COLLECTION PROCEDURES

Upon successful completion of the Certified Phlebotomy Technician program, students will: • Become familiar with commonly used medical terminology related to phlebotomy • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system • Become aware of the legal issues related to blood collection procedures and patient care.   9. Students will also: • Become familiar with blood collection equipment and procedures • Be able to successfully obtain blood through various blood collection procedures • Understand the procedure for arterial blood collection • Become familiar with complications and procedural errors • Learn about infection contra, safety and first aid

  10. Class Hours: Monday-Thursday 6:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. ONE Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Student will take final exam and prepare for clinical training) Program Length 5 Weeks: Classroom Time-4 Weeks Lab (Externship 80-120 hours)

  11. ATTEND A PHLEBOTOMY TRAINING PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE STATE’S LABORATORY FIELD SERVICES DEPARTMENT. COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 40 HOURS OF CLINICAL TRAINING AT A STATE APPROVED LAB. PASS A WRITTEN CERTIFICATION EXAM FROM A NATIONALLY ACCREDITED ORGANIZATION APPROVED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES. How To Obtain Your Certification

  12. Once you have passed the accredited certification exam, you must submit the following to the State for certification: • The following items are required for certification: • High School Transcript or GED • CTI Certificate • AMT Test Results • Proof of Clinical Hours completed • $54
