  1. SATS Information evening

  2. 2014 SATs timetable and changes • Reading • Maths • SPAG • How you can help during the Easter holiday • How you can help in SATs week SATS Information evening

  3. SATS Timetable • Changes: • Math paper 2 now non-calculator; • Reading now 3 or 4 separate, unrelated texts and no reading time at start.

  4. Reading • 3 or 4 progressively more difficult texts • read 1 text, answer questions, move on • short, closed questions (multiple choice, matching questions) • short, open questions • longer, open-ended questions (explain, give reasons, comment on, compare texts to show their understanding) • 35 to 40 questions = 50marks

  5. Maths • Mental maths test 20 questions (5secs, 10secs, 15secs) • Paper 1 (non calculator) 45mins • Paper 2 (non calculator) 45mins • Level 6 • Paper 1 (non calculator) 30mins • Paper 2 (calculator) 30mins

  6. SPAG • Spelling- 20 short sentences to complete with word read out by teacher • Punctuation and grammar – up to 45 questions to check understanding and ability to use • L6 paper contains harder spellings, elements of KS3 and a writing task

  7. How you can help your child during the Easter break • Make sure they get lots of fresh air, play and sleep. • Don’t make revising a big issue - we will revise in school in the 3 to 4 weeks before the Easter holidays and top up afterwards. • Short 15-20 minute revision sessions a couple of times a day are usually most effective. • Practise spellings, times and division facts, key maths facts, read together and question for understanding

  8. How you can help your child during SATs week • Make sure they get enough sleep. • Make sure they eat breakfast. • Encourage them to ask us if they are unsure about anything. • Explain that the SATs are a way of showing what they know. • Re-assure them that THEY CAN’T FAIL SATs! – they should aim to do their best on the day.
