The Meff trigger, defined as Meff = HT + MHT, represents a transverse scale of an event, allowing for a more model-independent approach compared to traditional high-threshold jet triggers. It accommodates various mass splittings, particularly beneficial in QCD events that contribute significantly to the overall rate. The Meff trigger permits higher thresholds than the HT trigger while ensuring good signal efficiency. Event yields comparable to HT200U have been observed for Meff values between 220U and 230U, demonstrating its effectiveness in jet selection and signal detection.

Meff Trigger Proposal • Motivation: • Meff=HT+MHT represents “transverse scale” of an event • more model independent than a single jet trigger with a high threshold • it also allows for different mass splittingsthan, e.g. in mSuGra(our current signal model) • for QCD which contributes most of the rate, a Meff trigger is ~equivalent to an HT trigger (no true missing energy) • for SUSY,MHT is a significant contribution to Meff • Therefore, a Meff trigger should allow a higher threshold than an HT trigger while still maintaining good signal efficiency • Observe event yields (=rates) comparable to HT200U for ~Meff220U - 230U calculated from 15U jets
