  3. WHY PARTNERSHIPS • Alone a youth runs far, with an elder slow, but together they go far. (African proverb - Kenya ) • Most communities have valued partnership from generation to generation • Many of the ideas which have had the biggest impact in the life of man kind have involved strong partnerships.

  4. In such partnerships, good ideas are turned into great interventions for problems. • The Mpesa mobile money transfer, which is transforming the telecoms and financial sector in kenya, started as a partnership between Safaricom and SMEs

  5. Influence of ICTs on society The society today, from rural communities to urban populations depend on ICT use for social economic Development • mobile has brought communities closer • E-mails and SMSs have replaced traditional letters;

  6. online web representation is nowadays more important for businesses than printed publicity materials; • Internet-based communication and phone services are growing faster than landline communications

  7. Changes in the ICT sector • Rapid technological changes. • Demand driven services, • Informed consumers, with high expectations • Quality of Services • Diversity • Very competitive environment,

  8. Innovation is key to competitive advantage • The sector depend on skilled Human Resources • Partnerships in capacity building is key to success

WHY AFRICASIA PARTNERSHIP • Africa & Asia have similar experiences and challenges such as; • Large Rural populations with big un exploited potential • Huge un met demand for ICT services • Low purchasing power • Infrastructure related challenges, eg power, roads, water • Similar cultural values e.g strong family value system

  10. Most members have Invested in capacity building at various levels. • The National training institutions will benefit from strong international partnerships • Partnership will allow members to create synergy and accelerate development of the sector;

Role of CTO in building partnerships • Brings all members from various regions of the globe together (Pacific, Asia, Europe, Africa and Caribbean) • Members have common interest –Growth of the ICT sector. • The ICT sector to spur growth of other sectors of the Economy and subsequently socio economic Development

  12. Enable the countries exploit their potential • The investments and growth of ICT depends on the quality of human capital • CTO’s Vision is to facilitate ICT for Development and build synergy of members.
