How Simple Machines Aid in Work: Understanding Their Role and Functionality
Simple machines are essential tools that help us perform work more efficiently by reducing the amount of force needed to move heavy loads, overcoming friction. These machines include pulleys, levers, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws, and wedges. They operate with few or no moving parts and allow us to apply a single force to achieve greater results. Understanding concepts like work—defined as the use of force to move an object over a distance—helps illustrate how these machines make our lives easier, enabling us to work smarter, not harder.

SIMPLE MACHINES EQ: How do machines help us do work?
When we have to move a real heavy load, we have to use a great deal of force to push it, because of friction. • This requires us to do work, which is the use of force to move an object over a distance of time
SIMPLE MACHINES • A machine with a few or no parts that you apply one force. • Pulley • Lever • Wheel and Axle • Inclined Plane • Screw • Wedge
Note – Wheel and Axle is the only simple machine that does not change the direction of a force. WORKING SMARTER & NOT HARDER!
REVIEW • What is work? • the use of force to move an object over a distance of time • What is a simple machine? • A machine with a few or no parts that you apply one force. • In order for a wheel and axle to be a simple machine, what is required? • There has to be a wheel, an axle, and they have to turn together. • Most importantly, it makes life easy for who? • OURS
