  2. Timeline • This week: • find 3 classes that interest you from the online schedule • Begin e-mailing instructors

Presentation—the day of your observation • 2 parts to focus on: • 1) SOCIOLOGICAL OBSERVATION: • (1st Lecture visit) Classroom Culture; Classroom Procedures; Class Demands; and Classroom Demographics • Give us details about what you saw, then speculate about what it means. • 2) NOTETAKING ACTIVITY: The class content: • Show us your notes (Scan them onto a computer and into a PPT). • Discuss the content of the second lecture/class you focused on. • How was it? (Difficulty of level? Why/which parts?) • Assignments for HW/in class? What kinds?

  4. Presentation—Discuss the class as a whole • Background • Sociological Observation • Content • Difficulty level of the class -Discuss the syllabus. What noteworthy information did you find there? -Homework and reading – how much and how often? • Did you speak with any students/overhear them talking about the class and/or the instructor? • What comments/complaints/questions did you hear from them? • Conclusions

Conclusions- Critical Thinking • What do you take away from this experience? • If the class is in your major, how would you do in that class today (if you were to take it)? • What linguistic (language) issues would be most difficult as a learner of English? Why? • What social/cultural/academic issues might you face? Why? • What strengths/advantages would you bring to this class? Why?
