  1. The Starting Point… Understanding your PSAT Score Report

Students will be able to: • Revisit missed/omitted questions on the Critical Reading and the Writing sections, at each difficult level, or by content level • Identify possible patterns in incorrect problem solving • Review correct answers with explanation, and identify skill areas that are still not clear • Brainstorm their short and long terms, IOT connect those goals to success on the SAT.

  3. Today’s Agenda • Sign in to My College QuickStart to view PSAT scores and more. • Look at your score report, and look into the types of questions you did well on and those you struggled with. • Introduce Road Map to Success Project.

  4. Sign in to “My College Quickstart” Go to https://quickstart.collegeboard.org/posweb/login.jsp

  5. Once logged in, click on • Using the tabs at the top of the page, choose Critical Reading. • Take a moment to review your score, score range, national and state percentiles, and projected SAT score range.* • *This is the baseline for YOU. Our goal is to get that score higher. How much higher is within your control!

  6. In the Your Answers tab, use the filter options to view questions to investigate further. Click on the number link to view the test questions and answer explanations.

  7. Reread the question, the answer choices, and the reading passages, if applicable. Then click on Show Answer. On the “Reviewing Missed Questions” worksheet, write in the test section (Critical Reading), question number, correct answer, and your answer. Then complete Question 1.

  8. Click on Show Answer Explanation. Read the full answer explanation provided and then answer Question 2 on the “Reviewing Missed Questions” worksheet. Repeat steps 5-10, selecting different categories of questions to view. Try viewing the easy questions you answered incorrectly and omitted. You can also view questions linked to a skill you would like to improve. You may choose questions in Critical Reading, Writing, or Mathematics. Please be sure to visit all sections during your own study time.

  9. IF YOU FINISH EARLY (or do this at home): Focus your review by looking at the questions linked to the skill you performed worst on. Click on an individual skill to see the definition and a list of the test questions that measure that skill.

  10. Road to Success Project • Due at beginning of class, worth 30 points, as follows: • Tuesday, 9/16 for A Day class • Wednesday, 9/17 for B Day class • Planning: brainstorm detailed responses to prompts. (10 points) • Where have you been...? Major achievements, turning points, events that brought you here today? • Where are you heading? After high school? In 5, 10 and 30 years? What gives your life meaning, excitement, and fullment at each stage of this fantasy? • What do you need to NOW to make this future possible? SHORT and LONG term goals, organized chronologically. • Create visual path from past achievements to future goals, presented in any way you choose. (10 points) • Share you project with class on Tuesday or Wednesday. These will be displayed in the classroom! (10 points)
