What Defines America? • On a sheet of paper number 1-5 • List 5 aspects that define America. • I am not looking for adjectives to describe America’s personality, but what defines what America is today?
“What Does America Mean to Me? ” • Follow along as I read a response to this question • As I read, jot down thoughts, feelings, questions, quotations, essentially you need to annotate this text. • Be prepared to discuss your analysis.
Group Reads • At each of your table groups, you have several responses to the question • Read them as a group and discuss what you like/dislike about the texts
Your Turn • Complete the handout analyzing all aspects America. • Turn to the person next to you and share your writing. Give feedback to each other. • Choose important elements from parts of America and highlight them. • Compose a poem centered around these elements of Your America. • Assignment Due: Friday, August 16th • The poem should be typed (you are free to play around with fonts and sizes). • The poem should be at least 25 lines.
