  1. Climate and Development Knowledge Brokers Workshop 3-5 June 2011

  2. Rationale • We’re all convinced that access to info and ability to share knowledge are crucial in tackling climate change • And that ‘knowledge brokers’ have a key role to play in addressing this • Many worthwhile initiatives already underway But ….

  3. Current shortcomings • Isolation • Duplication • Confusion • Tendency to be supply/technology driven • Unconnected (N – S, S – S, and across sectors) • Fragile • Portal proliferation syndrome The ‘Knowledge Infrastructure’ is still quite weak

  4. Hypothesis • We can do this job better if we are talking to each other • There is scope for meaningful collaboration, but this doesn’t happen by magic • Now is the time to be thinking about building a more effective knowledge infrastructure • But no preconceived ideas of what this might look like

  5. Objectives • Build bridges • Understand the niches we fill • Share experience on challenges • Discuss modalities and appetite for closer collaboration • Agree how to take this agenda forward

  6. Outcomes • Stronger relationships • A ‘map’ of current initiatives • A clearer picture of demand • An Action Plan for how we take this agenda forward as a community • Specific ideas for collaboration • Strengthened commitment

  7. A carrot • CDKN Innovation Fund • Approx £100,000 seed funding available • 4-6 grants of up to £25,000 • Competitive process, launched in Aug/Sept • Keen to get advice on how to make this most productive

  8. Workshop structure

  9. Logistics and housekeeping • Internet access • Space for posters • Transport • Dinner arrangements
