  2. CONTENTS • Assessment Objectives • P5 & P6 Examination Formats for Mathematics and Foundation Mathematics Papers

  3. MATHEMATICS FRAMEWORK

  4. Assessment Objectives Pupils should be able to: • Recall specific mathematical facts, concepts, rules and formulae, and to perform straightforward computations. (knowledge) • Interpret data and use mathematical concepts, rules or formulae and to solve routine or familiar mathematical problems. (comprehension) • Analyse data and/or apply mathematical concepts, rules and formulae in a complex situation, and to solve unfamiliar problems. (application & analysis) Mathematics Syllabus Primary 2007

  5. USE OF CALCULATORS

  6. Use of Calculators in Primary Mathematics CALCULATORS IN PSLE To align the assessment with the curriculum, calculators will be allowed in one part of the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) Mathematics and Foundation Mathematics examinations from 2009.

  7. Use of Calculators in Primary Mathematics CALCULATORS IN PSLE • As calculators will be allowed in one part of the examination, there is a need to restructure the examination format into two papers: - Paper 1 is the non-calculator component to ensure that important computational skills continue to receive emphasis. - Paper 2 is the component which allows the use of calculators. • The two papers will be taken on the same day with an administrative break between the papers.

  8. Use of Calculators in Primary Mathematics CALCULATORS IN PSLE • Only calculators that are approved by the Singapore Examinations & Assessment Board (SEAB) will be allowed in the examination. • To maintain continuity from primary to secondary education, these calculators can also be used at the secondary level.

  9. EXAMINATION FORMAT Duration of P5 & P6 Mathematics Paper: 2 hours 30 minutes

  10. P5/6 MATHEMATICS EXAM FORMAT

  11. EXAMINATION FORMAT Duration of P5/P6 Foundation Mathematics Paper: 2 hours 15 minutes

  12. P5/P6 FOUNDATION MATHEMATICS EXAM FORMAT

  13. Format of P5/P6 Examination Mathematics / Foundation Mathematics Paper MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS - For each question, four options are provided of which only one is the correct answer.

  14. Format of P5/P6 Examination Mathematics / Foundation Mathematics Paper 1-MARK SHORT-ANSWER QUESTIONS - For each question, a candidate has to write his answer in the space provided. Marks are awarded for correct answers. Any unit required in an answer is provided and a candidate has to give his answer in that unit.

  15. Format of P5/P6 Examination Mathematics / Foundation Mathematics Paper 2-MARK SHORT-ANSWER QUESTIONS - For each question, a candidate has to write his answer in the space provided. Marks are awarded as follows: • 2 marks are awarded if the correct answer is given. • If an incorrect answer is given, 1 mark is awarded for the correct method or working shown. • Any unit required in an answer is provided and a candidate has to give his answer in that unit.

  16. Format of P5/P6 Examination Mathematics / Foundation Mathematics Paper • STRUCTURED/LONG-ANSWER QUESTIONS - For each question, a candidate has to show his method of solution (working steps) clearly and write his answer(s) in the space(s) provided.
