Realistic Avatar Movement Using Multiple Trackers

This project focuses on making avatars more believable through realistic movement by utilizing a combination of multiple tracking systems. Using the CAL3D character animation library alongside two HiBall trackers and four Fastrack trackers, we employ inverse kinematics to achieve lifelike motion. Additionally, we explore sightseeing in virtual reality through a virtual gazebo equipped with a V8 HMD and HiBall tracker, featuring stunning panoramic views. Lessons learned highlight the complexity of managing multiple tracking systems and the meticulous effort required to achieve satisfactory results.

  1. Realistic Avatar Movement Using Multiple Trackers • Goal: make avatars more believable using few resources • Elements: • The CAL3D character animation library • Two HiBall trackers • Four Fastrack trackers • Inverse Kinematics • Lesson learned: working with two tracking systems is hard!

  2. The Virtual Gazebo • Goal: experiment with sight-seeing in VR • Elements: • The “standard” V8 HMD and HiBall tracker • A VE with a gazebo in it • Lots of nice panoramas • Lesson learned: getting things just right takes time, but the results can be a lot of fun.
