Pros Cons • Quicker receipt of Rxs • No ‘collection’ service needed • Quicker to label • Month end quicker / less day to day filing • COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT • Difficulty doing clinical checks • Dual system • Authorising Rx and sending claim is another step • Need to ‘re-sign’ customers

Hints & Tips 1 • *****Ensure exemption criteria is up to date and entered on PMR system ***** • Leave plenty of time to organise a sponsor and issue smartcards – there may be a waiting list • Ensure staff have all relevant paperwork before attending smartcard appt. • Speak to your PMR company to understand what training they will provide – involve as many staff as possible

  4. Hints & Tips 2 • Don’t forget to update you SOPs • Liaise with your local GP surgeries throughout – try to have a contact point to discuss problems/changes required • Link with other pharmacies who already use ETP and have the same PMR system – visit them to see how ETP works in practice.
