  2. Legal writing covers the analysis of legal facts and argumentation of facts and legal briefs in legal documents like briefs and legal memorandums. One type of legal writing covers drafting a persuasive defense, which advocates for a legal position against an opposing party. The other type of legal writing is a legal analysis, which analyzes a law or some legislation. It also covers an overview of the legal system, including the courts, prosecutors, lawyers, judges, and juries.

  3. The different types of writing style Legal writing style differs from reader to reader and varies according to the topic. There are four main writing styles: persuasive, legal reasoning, descriptive, and academic writing style. For example, a legal reasoning style essay describes arguments made in support of an opinion, a position, or a law or policy. The writing presents the legal situation, the reason for the opinion, the facts on which the opinion is based, the possible consequences if the opinion is not accepted, and the consequences of the opinion are accepted. Proposing a case is an example of persuasive legal reasoning.

  4. Legal writing briefs are written arguments presented in support of an opinion, a legal matter, or a motion, case, etc. A brief is a condensed version of the full opinion. A legal writing style brief includes the major arguments presented in a brief, the statutory and regulatory background, the legal authority, the effect of the authority upon the plaintiff and the defendant, and the procedure to be followed.

  5. Descriptive writing is a style that describes a fact or piece of information, and the legal position it is addressing. It is not concerned with legal reasoning or legal documentation. The most common example of this type of writing is a legal analysis of an event. A legal analysis essay is a written argument presented in support of an opinion, a legal matter, or a motion, case, etc. A descriptive essay may also be referred to as a legal question reader.

  6. Legal citation is an instance of writing that uses a standard format of referencing sources in a legal document. Citations are generally required when copying an article or publication, as well as when referencing a work of authorship. A legal citation occurs when the sources used to support a claim are cited in a legal document. Most citations use the phrase “which appear” rather than “in which mention” and provide page numbers or an index to locate these citations in a legal document.

  7. A good legal writing style should include an introduction, body, and conclusion. An introduction is a section where the writer explains their purpose in writing the essay and the reader should be able to follow this without difficulty. The body of the essay describes the main idea behind the legal document. It describes the legal issue or case study and points out the support for the ideas presented. Finally, the conclusion describes the results or the result of the legal study and is usually accompanied by a recommendation to the reader.
