  1. Overview of Dental Implant http://www.bracessmiles.com

  2. What are Dental Implants? • A dental implant is a screw like anchor that is used as an artificial replacement for natural tooth roots. Made of materials that are compatible with the human body, such as titanium, implants have been used for decades in upper and lower jaws. By attaching to the jawbone and gum tissue, they provide a stable base for artificial replacement teeth, such as dental crowns, bridges and dentures. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  3. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or several teeth, or to support partial or full dentures. Implants and crowns remain inside the mouth and do not require any adhesives to hold them in place. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  4. Dental Implant Procedure • Dental implant treatment generally takes several months and follows a three-step process. Step – 1 Your Smile approved dentist places the implant into the jaw then inserts a screw to prevent debris from entering. It will take 3 to 6 months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone, during which time the gum is secured over the implant. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  5. Step – 2 Upon returning to the dentist, the implant is uncovered and an extension called a post is attached. Once the gum tissue has healed around the post, the implant and post act as the foundation for the new tooth. Step – 3 Finally, the dentist makes a crown that best suits your natural teeth, considering factors including size, shape and color. Once completed, the crown is attached to the implant post and you can enjoy your beautiful new smile! http://www.bracessmiles.com

  6. Types of Dental Implants • There are 3 different types of dental implants. Depending on your individual circumstances, your Smile approved dental professional will decide which kind is best suited to you. • Endosseous Implants Cylinder or screw-shaped, endosseous implants are made of metal, ceramic or ceramic-coated metal and are placed within the jawbone. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  7. Subperiosteal Implants Subperiosteal implants consist of a metal framework that attaches on top of the jawbone but underneath the gum tissue. • Transosteal Implants Transosteal implants are either a metal pin or a u-shaped frame that passes through the jawbone and the gum tissue into the mouth. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  8. What is the Recovery Time for Dental Implants? • The recovery time for dental implants is dependent on the patient, and it differs from one individual to another. • Depending on your circumstances, the downtime could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. • On average, it takes just a couple of days to feel back to normal. The complete healing of your jawbone and gum tissue takes approximately 3-6 months. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  9. Are Dental Implants Safe? • Dental implants have proven to be a safe and effective solution for replacing teeth for over 30 years. Made from materials that work well with the human body, dental implants serve as a strong and safe foundation for replacement teeth. http://www.bracessmiles.com

  10. Any Risks, Side Effects or Pain Involved? • Any risks and side effects are rare and easily treated. These can include: • Infection • Injury or damage to other teeth or blood vessels • Nerve damage • Sinus problems if upper-jaw implants protrude into sinus cavities. • Although uncommon and usually minor, it is important to contact your Smile-approved dentist if you experience any of these side effects. • Once healed, dental implants should be painless and comfortable. Immediately after surgery, however, discomfort and mild pain is expected to last up to a week. Your dentist may prescribe you something for the pain and to avoid infection; otherwise, over-the-counter painkillers can help to manage the pain. http://www.bracessmiles.com
