The market is here…. • Number of public transport passenger journeys per year in the EU: 60 billions (=60.000.000.000) • Number of direct public transport jobs (=operators) in the EU: 1.2 millions • Contribution of public transport to the EU economy (per year): 130 to 150 billion EUR (that is 1 to 1.2%) of the EU GDP. * * figures are estimates, based on a number of hypotheses

Overall SPUTNIC conclusions Improve the cost effectiveness of PT system’s investment and operation Increase the attractiveness of PT system for existing passengers and potential new customers Multimodal, integrated and seamlessPT is necessary to develop sustainable urban transport systems Infrastructure needs to be carefully planned and prioritised to optimise transport chains and the overall transport network Long-term management, maintenance, upgrading and repair of both vehicles and infrastructure. Raise the awareness of and the commitment to PT
