  4. Communication • “Physical” Meeting – 1/year: next- 2011 tbd. • Steering Committee conference calls – monthly • Special Topic conference calls – as needed

  5. Programmatic issues, work areas, priorities • ITER/enabling-technologies (solid materials) ~90% --Focus on All-Metal plasma facing components --Experiments at DIII-D, PISCES, CMOD, US Lab facilities (SNL, UIUC, MIT, etc.) --Modeling/analysis (plasma edge/sol, sputter erosion, ELM etc. erosion, mixed-materials, etc.) • Liquid lithium ~10% --NSTX Liquid Lithium Divertor, Lab work, other liquid metals (Sn, Ga) • JET, other international devices • DEMO, other future device PFC studies

  6. Effort defined by Materials 7

  7. Effort defined by Devices 8

  8. Programmatic issues contd. • Coordinate PFC Program with other US groups/activities • Burning Plasma Organization • subgroups e.g. tritium issues, diagnostic mirrors • FNSF • Edge Physics Group • Materials Group • FESAC • FSP • Etc.

  9. Challenges • ReNeW: “Taming the Plasma Interface”– Challenges identified. Our PFC Community Response. • Plasma facing component performance is a critical issue for fusion--work underfunded by ~X3 • ITER full power D-T plasma in 18 years--motivation issue.
