  2. leadership is complex… The landscape of leadership seems to be always moving with new themes emerging. Leaders and the practice of Leadership requires you to deal with uncertainty, complexity, collaboration. How ready are you?

Objective of this Unit This Unit explores leadership through a reflective lens to enable critical • reflection on Self as Leader, leadership practice in a complex settings and leadership development. • It will enable critical reflection using a Leadership psychometric profiling combined with a theoretical framework. • This will provide an approach for critically evaluating the self as leader, leadership practice and leadership development. • Exploration and critical evaluation of emerging and traditional theories of leadership, dynamics of power, trust, collaboration and context.

  4. Embracing the Theory & Practice Theory & Practice combine to enhance your academic and vocational development. It will support and underpin your learning and development Literature will focus on aspects of Leader and Leadership, critical reflection and coaching.

  6. Leadership begins with the individual: thinking about yourself as a leader This journey of development will include exploring Psychometrics. How can these help our understanding of ourselves a leaders. How can we use them to develop our leadership practice.

  7. identify how you can develop yourleadership skills You will reflect upon your own leadership strengths You will explore and decide your way forward for development, your goals, your aspirations… You may engage in action learning and peer support to do this.

  8. your role in the organisation, your challenges You will have the opportunity to explore your current and future challenges in the context of you as a leader, and your leadership practice. We will explore a range of issues including power and trust for example.

  9. Leadership is also about personal change and development Developing coaching skills and using these skills in the support and development of others. You will be working with your peers, practicing coaching and engaging In action learning.

When you finish this Unit you will be able to… Critically evaluate the contribution of theoretical models associated with leadership when applied in complex business settings; Evaluate the need for reflective learning and self-awareness in relation to the role of the leader, development of self as leader and practice of leadership; Assess the importance of dynamics of trust and power within complex relational and collaborative settings; Evaluate the challenges and opportunities to integrate coaching, mentoring and an action learning approach within current leadership practice.

  12. Assessment : Two piece of work 1: Leadership Profile and development review: You have the opportunity to draw from a range of tools and activities to produce a 2000 word leadership profile. You can apply relevant leadership theory to context, incorporating critical reflective practice in the process. 2: Leadership Report – You will produce a 3000 word critique of the role of leaders in relation in local and complex contexts; reflecting on both the challenges faced by leaders when leading people and developing leadership practice within diverse and complex settings.
